While I was sketching around for my new series I was reading the book “This changes everything” by Noami Klein, where she elaborates on the connections between capitalism and climate crisis and the psychology of denial of the western nations towards it. Feeling very hopeless, I wanted to produce dystopian images that tell more about the anxiety I felt towards the environment. My methodology is a lot about finding poetic and symbolic images to dense topics and then sewing them together. I was thinking about translating keywords like indecisiveness, paradox, fear, scarcity, dependency into legible scenarios. In one of the images I show a group of people herded together waiting to be equally chopped off as the piled up dead trees in their background.
With this series I wanted to move out of my own inner self to connect with other issues that occupy me, such as the planet, collective responsibilities and fantastic futures.
